Hobby update #1

Image
Since I last updated the blog some things have changed for me in the hobbying world. The first thing that has happened is Warlord Games announcing that at the end of September this year a third edition of Bolt Action will be released. All 'Army of...' books will become obsolete but, allegedly all armies will still be usable, though I do wonder where my SAS stand in all of this. Due to this new development I have decided that my 8th Army project will be put on hold until later this year. Below are pictures of the 8th Army project so far. I also played my first game of Blood Bowl against a friend, a break from all the historical stuff. I used my Skaven and managed to pull off a draw, which, given my track record with games, was good. Anyway that is all for now. Happy hobbying

Some of this years models, in no particular order. I have mostly been painting Anglo-Saxons so far this year but I have begun a few other projects, I have started work on the Romans and Celts from the  Hail Caesar starter set, some 1:200 scale planes for  Blood Red Skies and finally an Anglo-Dane warlord for Saga. Saga: Age of Vikings

Saga: Age of Vikings   I have decided to return to Saga and create a new warband for the Age of Vikings book. I decided on creating a new Anglo-Dane warband as my last one became part of my Hail Caesar Anglo-Saxon army and due to mounting them on bases of four they have become unusable in Saga. Though I stated in an earlier blog entry that I have reservations about Saga I decided to give it a go again and have a smaller project to work on. I once again searched the internet for suitable models, first considering using the Victrix models I have. I eventually settled on a warband from Gripping Beast, allowing me to purchase some models I had been after for sometime. I ordered six points of models from the Beast, they are as follows: Warlord Hearthguard, 1 point Hearthguard, 1 point Hearthguard 1 point Warriors, 1 point Warriors, 1 point Warriors, 1 point Total: 6 points Unpacking the eagerly awaited models Anglo-Dane warlord all painted and based After the arrival of the models I rat...

More trees

I thought with the country and most of the  in general in lockdown I would have more time to do my hobby and blog articles, I was wrong. It would appear with a combination of medication and not actually having to go anywhere I have been sleeping more (getting between seven and eight hours sleep a night now), I actually have less time to do things. It has also taken sometime as I decided to make four different types of tree and planned to do four different articles and then decided not too, then I decided too and now I am not sure which way to do it. I am still favouring a number of articles, but that a decision for when I have made the last of the trees. I decided this week to redo the lichen trees I had been working on as I did not like how they were looking, they looked far too much like the clump foliage trees and I also nearly finished the coco-fibre trees, I have quite the forest slowly growing on my desk (by slowly growing I do not mean as slow a real forest though, or at lea...

Clump Foliage Trees and Fabric

Image
Just a quick update this week, to demonstrate that things are moving along, if a bit slower than I would like. No completed projects recently, but I have been following tutorials on how to make fairly realistic looking trees, the project is taking longer than I anticipated. After injuring myself with my glue gun on numerous occasions the project is moving along now. I am rather impressed with how effective the clump foliage looks on the armatures. 'Growing' trees on the desk This week a new piece of Faux Fur Fabric arrived, a darker brown than before and shorter. I am hoping that it will turn out better than the previous one, I just need to find better coloured paints than I used before, this may be rather tricky considering the Corvid-19 lockdown. I will also have to find time to create the next mat between the building and painting of 300+ Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. New dark brown Faux Fur Fabric Thats about it for this week, not a lot going on and only slow...
